Analysis of 3 artists websites

Ed Sheeran
Visual Layout
- The first page you are sent to promotes his up and coming album with access to the actual website towards the bottom of the page. Also there are buttons to press in which navigates you to download the album or view the track list.
- The website is basic but effective as the main colour scheme includes predominantly black and white; but, the font used corresponds to the artist as it is used on all his albums.
- The first page includes links to his new music video and all of his tour dates and places.

Consistency structures
- Each page is named at the top of the website making it easy to navigate through.
- The name of each pages consistently stays at the top.
 - In addition, the website is easy to navigate through as it gives clear indication of what is what and where to go - all links work making it a successful website.

Colour scheme
- The colour scheme that remains throughout this website is the same as the colours used on his new album; 'no.6 collaborations project'. This emphasises the new album and almost promotes it in a way.
- Also, the simplicity of the colours used makes the website easy to understand and control and makes other important media content stand out.

Representation of artists
- The websites homepage includes a photo of the artist with other well known artists - this could correspond to his recent album in which features dozens of other artists and promotes it.
- The typical font which relates to Ed Sheeran is used all throughout. This could show that, whilst adapting to many other audiences with experimentation with genres in his recent album , he is still the same artist who fans originally loved.
- However, there isn't any information about the artist himself which could put off new listeners.

Overall
- Overall, the main purpose of this website is to promote the artists music and tours.
- The layout of the website is simple and helpful.
- The colour scheme doesn't specifically target a certain gender or group as it appeals to everyone.

Khalid
Visual layout
- The homepage that you are instantly sent to promotes his new single.
- There are buttons at the top of the screen making navigating through the website simple.
- A snippet of the music video to his new single is shown and fills the majority of the page which will catch the eye of an audience and promote his music.
- As you scroll down there is more information which informs you of his tour dates and allows you to buy tickets and see prices.

Consistency Structures
- The website lacks much writing which some people may find difficult as there is not clear indication of what is what.
- The website is messy as it does not have a clear structure to it and it is difficult to distinguish page from page.
- It seems this website is focused more on looks rather than being convenient.

Colour scheme
- The colour scheme is bright which makes the website difficult to navigate through as it puts less focus on important information that the site gives.
- The bright colours also make it seem like the whole website is intertwined into one big page, also making it hard to use.

Representation of artists
- The website lacks photos of the artist, it only includes the thumbnail of his music video and the front covers of his album. Therefore, he is not fully represented throughout the website which may deter visitors.
- Also, the website doesn’t include a biography so it does not entail fans detail about Khalid.
- Infact, nothing at all throughout the whole website mentions his life so details about the artist is scarce.

Overall
- Overall, the main purpose of this site is to merely promote his music.
- It’s other purpose is to promote his social media account as it has a section which says “follow”.
- The layout of the website may make it difficult for some people to use as it does not give clear indications of what is what.
- The website may be aimed at a younger audience (15+ maybe) as it used bright colours and doesn’t include much writing.
- I will definitely include biography in my website and I will incorporate a similar colour theme that matches throughout and font.

Nicki Minaj
Visual layout
- The homepage shows a photo of the artist posing in minimal clothing
- It also shows the front cover of her new album to promote it to fans.
- it gives you the option to ‘stream’ or ‘download’ her new single.
- At the top of the page it has 3 buttons which navigate you to other parts of the site; whilst being easy to use it is very bare and simple as, compared to the other websites I have analysed, it has fewer options.
- It includes the artists name in big italic letters at the top to catch the viewers eye.

Consistency structures
- The website doesn’t entail much writing about the artist herself, instead it includes a preview of her latest song and merchandise. This hinders that the overall purpose of the site is to promote her work, not to introduce the artist etc.
- The colour scheme is consistent throughout.
- The font is simple and remains very similar throughout, it creates no effect on the website which creates the idea that not much thought has been put into it.

Colour scheme
- The prominent colour used on the website is pink; this hinders the idea that the site is aimed at a female audience as the website creates a girly, feminine effect.
- The colour scheme does not vary throughout and has a solid pink look all through which, again, creates the idea that this website was rushed.

Representation of artists
- The website lacks images of the artist. This could deter an audience as it does not show information of her.
- It doesn’t include a biography so fans may also be deterred as they cannot read about them.
- There is no writing at all throughout which puts an audience off as they cannot see the artist being represented.

Overall
- Overall, the website may be aimed at young adults (18+) due to the explicit language used on her advertised merchandise and the minimal clothing she wears in the photo included.
- It’s clear that the main purpose is to advertise her work.
- The website is easy to navigate through as it doesn’t have much to go on as it lacks a lot.
- I will use the idea of making it simple to navigate through as I don’t want users to struggle.
